POM BDE
Shop floor data capture
Shop floor data capture where the work happens: scan, start, stop – and the order knows its actual times.
- 01
The problem
Planned times exist, actual times are guesswork. Post-calculation runs on estimates.
- 02
How POM solves it
A terminal at the line: scan order and personnel number, Enter starts, stop books the quantity. Every booking lands on the operation.
- 03
The result
Actual hours, quantities and costs per order – the raw material for honest post-calculation.

Quick answers
Questions about POM BDE
What is shop floor data capture (BDE)?
Shop floor data capture means recording times and quantities where the work happens instead of estimating them afterwards. With POM BDE the employee scans the production order and their personnel number at the terminal, and workstation and tool can be captured too; Enter starts the booking, stop books the quantity. Every booking lands on the operation. Each order knows its actual times, and the evaluation shows target against actual per order, employee, workstation and shift.
Do I need special terminals for shop floor data capture?
No. The BDE terminal is a view in the POM client running on a Windows PC on the shop floor, and it can be undocked into its own window. Input comes from a hand scanner that types the code it reads like a keyboard – whether it handles barcodes or Data Matrix is up to the scanner. Numbers can also be typed in. POM prints workstation labels itself, as Code 128 or Data Matrix.
How does POM BDE work together with orders, costing and equipment?
The personnel number comes from the shared employee master data, and bookings go against the operations of orders POM already manages – nothing is maintained twice. Finished operations unlock the next step in the workflow. POM Costing reads the booked hours for post-calculation, and with POM Resources the hourly rates of the equipment are frozen when each booking ends. Actual times and costs per order are then available.
Does every BDE terminal count as a separate licence?
POM is licensed by concurrent sessions, not by devices or user accounts. A terminal occupies one session while it is signed in – just like a workstation in the office. Employees book at it with their personnel number; how many of them use a terminal during a shift makes no difference to the licence. You can create as many user accounts as you need.
