The problem
An operation goes out to a supplier, together with the material. What comes back when, and whether the quantity is right, is on a delivery note in a binder.
- 02
How POM solves it
From December 2026 the external operation hangs on the production order – as an external-work purchase order via purchasing or as a simple process. Provided material goes out with a provision note. The return delivery is booked with incoming inspection, and the material balance compares the target from the bill of materials with what was issued and what came back.
- 03
The result
You know what is at the supplier – and a difference becomes a task, not a surprise.

Quick answers
Questions about POM Subcontracting
What is subcontracting in POM?
External work at suppliers: an operation of a production order is done outside the company. From December 2026 you create it in POM Subcontracting as an external-work purchase order via purchasing or as a simple process, provide material with a provision note and book the return delivery with incoming inspection.
How do I keep track of provided material?
With the material balance per assignment: it compares the target from the bill of materials with what was issued and what came back. A difference is resolved as a task. POM proposes the material to provide; the provision note is also available as a PDF.
Do I need purchasing for it?
For the external-work purchase order, yes, it runs through purchasing in Warenwirtschaft. Without purchasing, you handle the assignment as a simple process on the production order.
