The challenges
What it really hinges on here.
- 01
Many similar articles – and exactly one is on the bench right now
- 02
Test steps are mandatory and must be assigned to qualified people
- 03
Dispatch with labels and tracking closes the order
Many variants, clear testing
The right variant, tested and shipped.
In electrical engineering, many articles differ only in details: a different voltage, a different housing, a different board assembly. Exactly one of them is on the bench, and that one has to be built, tested and shipped. In POM the production order names its article, and global search finds it by order, article or customer. At the POM BDE terminal, the employee scans the order and books against exactly this variant.
Test steps are mandatory in electrical engineering, final testing before dispatch for example. POM Inspection defines what to check per article or work step – with target value and tolerance, one-sided limits included. You can start with a plan for final testing and create plans for individual articles as soon as a customer demands it. Every record names inspector, gauge and result; if the gauge’s calibration is overdue, this is noted.
Whoever tests needs the right qualification. In the skills matrix, POM Quality keeps ability and difficulty levels per employee and work step; a qualification can carry an instruction and an expiry date. Staff suggestions in planning rank by qualification and workload who can take on the test step. A test then no longer depends on the one person who happens to know how it works.
Dispatch closes the order. POM Shipping creates the shipment directly on the order, fetches the label from the carrier and keeps the parcel number on the record; the customer receives a shipping notification, and tracking runs in POM. An open quality block stops dispatch. POM Traceability follows purchased components subject to batch tracking from goods receipt to shipment. And if a device comes back, the return is recorded and followed until goods receipt.
The modules that fit
Where companies here start.
- Module
POM BDE
Shop floor data capture where the work happens: scan, start, stop – and the order knows its actual times.

POM Inspection
Inspection by plan: characteristics and tolerances, measured values on the order, blocking and scrap – the proof is created as you inspect.

From component to parcel number
How a variant runs through POM.
- 01
Goods receipt and inspection
Purchased components subject to batch tracking are recorded with supplier and manufacturer batch. If the article has an inspection plan for goods receipt, the delivery stays in blocked stock until the inspection releases it.
- 02
Planning by qualification
On the Gantt board you distribute orders across weeks and employees. For test steps, staff suggestions show who has the required qualification and free capacity.
- 03
Production at the terminal
The employee scans production order and personnel number, starts, and reports the quantity on stop. With batch tracking required, the server accepts the booking only with a batch number.
- 04
Final test on record
The inspection plan asks for the final test characteristics, and POM rates measured values against the tolerance. Good, rework and scrap quantities go into the record; an open block stops completion.
- 05
Dispatch and returns
The shipment is created on the order, with the carrier’s label and the parcel number on the record. Several orders for one customer can share one consolidated shipment; returns are followed until goods receipt.
What POM brings to your industry
The order carries its variant, its tests and its people – from the first operation to the parcel number.
Quick answers
Questions from practice.
How do I stop bookings on the wrong variant?
By scanning the order. At the POM BDE terminal, a hand scanner reads the production order number, and the booking lands on exactly this order and its operation. Whether barcodes or Data Matrix are read depends on the scanner; POM prints workstation labels itself. Numbers can also be typed in by hand.
How do I prove who carried out a test?
Every record in POM Inspection keeps inspector, gauge and quantities for good, rework and scrap. Records cannot be changed; a correction is a replacement with a reason, and the original stays visible. Whether the inspector is qualified for the step is recorded in the skills matrix of POM Quality – with instruction and expiry date if you wish.
Can series and special orders be planned in one system?
Yes. Both are orders with article, quantity and due date, and both sit on the same Gantt board; unplanned orders wait in a pool and are dragged into the schedule. Move a rush order forwards and you see the consequences for capacity, qualification and due date immediately. Overdue work is clearly flagged, and the Today dashboard shows what is due today.
Can an order be shipped while an inspection is still open?
Not with an open quality block. With POM Inspection, the block stops the order at completion, and with POM Shipping at dispatch too; the shop floor keeps working meanwhile. Blocking and releasing are separate permissions. One limit is worth knowing: the block at dispatch does not apply to customer pick-up.
How is a test area with several stations licensed?
What counts are concurrently signed-in sessions, not devices and not user accounts. A test station at which several employees book one after another occupies one session while it is signed in. User accounts are unlimited. If stations are added, you activate a new licence file on your server – without reinstalling.
