Questions about POM MES

What is an MES for cable assembly?

An MES (manufacturing execution system) controls production at the machine: which order runs on which machine and how well it runs. POM MES is built for cable assembly today. In the control station, orders move from the pool to planned to fixed on the machine, and the sequence keeps set-up changes low. Master data for wires, terminals, seals and leadsets plus crimp standards describe what a machine can run; the machine client and OEE complete the picture.

How does POM MES connect to orders, workstations and tools?

Through numbers that already exist: every machine in the MES is linked to its POM workstation, tools and applicators find their equipment record through their inventory number, and MES orders refer to the POM order through the production order number. In the hall view, the production space, the machine positions then show status, running order and OEE from the MES. At the machine itself, the machine client shows only its own order queue.

Where do the OEE figures come from?

From the feedback per machine: good quantity, scrap and downtime. POM calculates OEE from it and shows availability, performance and quality separately, so you can see where losses arise. The control station states where a machine status comes from and when the last report arrived; a missing figure shows as a dash, not a zero. Automatic capture straight from the machine, for example via OPC UA or MQTT, is on the roadmap and not available today.

Is POM MES also available for machining or other industries?

Not today. POM MES is built for cable assembly; wires, terminals, seals, leadsets and crimp standards are its master data. An MES for machining and a freely configurable standard MES are on the roadmap and not part of today’s scope. Companies in other industries capture times and quantities with POM BDE and plan with POM Planning; whether that is enough shows in the 30-day trial with every module, without a contract.
